Dear Users!

MindForge is online for already 3 years now. We don't count lines written in all the chans since this network started but we know for sure that there were more of them than people all around the world. We wish you (and ourself too) a great time, a better one like we went through in the past (here a big THANK YOU for staying, even in bad times). At least there are just some single words left to say: Let's go for another year, without attacks, takeovers, spam, flood and hopefully less splits. Just keep up the good chat and take the chance to find new friends all over the planet. Best wishes to every user on MindForge, HAVE FUN!
And now... let's drink champagne to celebrate! We have also Easter, so we want to wish you also calm and family Easter! HAPPY EASTER!
Greetings from IRC-Hell. MindForge Team |

... is wrong with MindForge? I'll tell you the bitter truth. The lazy Ops here do not pay their server fees and that's why our hosters shut us down ... :p Sadly this is not true as it would be too easy to fix. Currently all our boxes are under a severe DDOS attack. For the interested reader this Wikipedia article describes DDOS attacks comprehensively but to cut it short, it just means our servers are drowned in crappy traffic until their bandwidth is full and they stop responding. "So, why don't you stop this attack or filter the crappy traffic" you may ask. The answer is simple: "We can't". Someone called DDOS attacks the nuclear bomb of the internet and simple servers do not really have the means to defend themselves against this attack. Only the server hosters can do something about it, but most of the time the best thing they do, is to take down your server so that the attack has no target anymore. Doesn't really help us as then we don't have a server anymore for you to connect. As we do not have any clue about the motivation of this attack, all we can do at the moment is waiting until it stops. I know, this is unsatisfactory for you and for us. So, thanks a lot for holding out with us and for your dedication to MindForge.
Note on the comments:
What was my purpose of the writing above? It is about MindForge getting DDOSed from an unknown source. The text is there to clarify that we cannot really do something about it and to apologize for the inconvenience it causes our dear users.
What is it now? Now the comment system is abused for a personal flame ware between some MindForge team members and some users on our network. This is neither the idea of the comment system nor the right place to dispute such things. More so (this is my own personal opinion now) it is sad to see that we have such an escalated discussion in the first place. From what I read and from what I got translated, I insistently ask all participants to return to a more civil and calm discussion. Towards a discussion that is aimed at solving things and not getting things worse. Therefore I now disable the comment system until further notcie.
Best regards,
Monk |

Happy 2nd Birthday MindForge !!! |

Happy Birthday MindForge !!! On this second birthday anniversary, let us drink to celebrate ...
| While we let the second anniversary of this network go by without a party ... we haven't forgotten. We must be either overworked, inconsiderate, or (most likely) on vacation !
Since the official kick off on the 15th of March, 2005 ... it's been two solid years of continuous network online presence, consolidation, and slight expansion (except for a few ddos attacks and careless network kills by overwrought Administrators). | The exact date of the birth of MindForge is somewhere between December 2004 and April 2005 ... as the question arises about when an IRC network begins to exist. Is it when a few founders get together and imagine the project ... or is it when the first Users are invited .. or, more technically, ... when a DNS is changed over ... ?
The origins of MindForge on a few key dates:
For simplicity, we will stick with March 15th, but if anyone has any other precisions to bring to this issue they are welcome to post it on the forum.
While the ambitious MindForge objectives for harboring many Open Source projects haven't quite been met yet, we are still confident that this will occur in due time. MindForge, in addition to its specialty as a quality P2P help network, has the great potential for being a serious "working" network ... and we are still working to that effect, hoping that all regular Users will support us in this endeavour. | A new feature still needing fine tuning is the #Class concept, where intense noob training is programmed to bring P2P User help up to "working network" standards. The challenge is daunting but worthwhile ! More on this "geek" feature soon.
... after the party, we will nurse our headaches to move forever forward down the road of collective IRC network life ... |
With all our thanks for a positive 2 years online ... let's keep it going! Your MindForge Team |
