SSL Access To MindForge Enabled

Good news for all who are active in organized crime, secret agencies or the free masons: MindForge now allows SSL connections for maximum security and privacy.Along with the general update to latest Unreal release 3.2.8.1 we also added SSL access on port 6697. So what is this SSL stuff about? Without SSL the connection between your IRC client and the IRC servers is plaintext. The same is true for the connections between the IRC server that form MindForge. So anyone who manages to tap into this line, e.g. on public WIFI hot-spots or due to someone being compromised by a trojan etc, could read the entire communication. With SSL all the communication between clients and servers is encrypted so nobody can decipher any text that is sent over the network. Obviously, for complete security all users in a channel have to use SSL, otherwise some parts remain unencrypted. The only thing left to do is to configure your client to use SSL:How-to for mIRC (index.php?option=com_content task=view id=71 Itemid=45)How-to for xChat (index.php?option=com_content task=view id=70 Itemid=45)

MindForge Channel Name Policy Update

To All MindForge Users, After much debate and some soul searching, MindForge has updated its Channel Name Policy. As of the 4th of July, 2009, only Official eMule, eMulePlus and eMuleMorph Channels can use the eMule word in their name : http://www.mindforge.org/index.php?option=com_smf Itemid=103 topic=2535.0 (index.php?option=com_smf Itemid=103 topic=2535.0) (see your language specific boards for translations). The only “unofficial” channels allowed to use the eMule prefix or suffix have been given an exception for either of the following reasons :These trusted channels have existed over a long period of time on the networkChannel owners have requested an exception for legitimate reasons accepted by the MindForge Team The list of exceptions can be consulted here : http://www.mindforge.org/downloads/eMule%20Clone%20Chan%20exceptions%20list_04-07-2009.txt (downloads/eMule%20Clone%20Chan%20exceptions%20list_04-07-2009.txt) By the end of this month, all “unofficial” channels will be dropped and forbid automatically for the unfortunate reasons given in the policy statement above, and without any forwarning. We advise all eMule Users who use its built-in IRC Module to disable in Preferences the filter displaying channels beginning only with #emule-*.While this policy update breaks with long-standing practice, we do hope it will make your IRC experience more enjoyable and we thank you for your understanding,The MindForge Team
